Day 1: Singapore
Check in at the Raffles Hotel before starting your train journey. Staff of the Eastern & Oriental Express will take your luggage here. Then transfer to the Woodlands train station. The shiny green carriages of the Eastern & Oriental Express are waiting for you and you´ll be welcomed by stewards in traditional Thai uniforms. As you settle into your comfortable compartment, the train will start moving. Not long after, the train passes the bridge over the Strait of Johore and enters Malaysia.
The ride takes you through a beautiful landscape with rubber plantations and waving palms. When the sun sets, you change for dinner and are welcome in the bar carriage. Afterwards, enjoy an excellent dinner in one of the two tastefully decorated restaurant carriages. In the late evening the train makes a short stop at the station of Kuala Lumpur. Overnight stay on board of the train.
Day 2: Kuala Kangsar
The steward serves breakfast in your own compartment. The train then arrives at Kuala Kangsar, a picturesque town in the north, the official residence of the Sultan of Perak. The excursion will first take you to the large Ubudiah Mosque and then on to the Royal Museum of Perak, an architectural masterpiece that houses royal regalia. Finally, you´ll visit the Sultan Shah Gallery which is located in a former palace and where you can admire the personal belongings of Sultan Azian Shah.
Once you have returned by train, it will continue its journey past rice fields and limestone formations towards Padang Besar on the border between Malaysia and Thailand. The border formalities take place while you stay on board the train. The rest of the afternoon you can enjoy beautiful scenery in the privacy of your own compartment or from the open rear balcony of the train. Dinner and overnight stay on board the train.
Day 3: Kanchanaburi and Bangkok
In the morning, arriving in Kanchanaburi, you can choose from several tours. Visit the River Kwai Bridge and the Thai-Burma Ralwai Museum or get on a bike to cycle between the Thai rice fields. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in a cooking class, including a visit to a local market. When you board the train again, enjoy a final lunch before arriving in Bangkok at the end of the afternoon.
