The itinerary of this amazing journey by rail when you start in any major station or airport in Western Europe (such as Amsterdam, London, Paris).
Day 1 - to Cologne
Your journey to central Europe starts with a high-speed train trip to Cologne, where you stay overnight in a hotel close to the main train station.
Day 2 - to Prague
Continue by express trains to Prague, with one transfer in Nuremberg or Regensburg. Seats are reserved for you on all trains. You arrive early in the evening and stay in a modern hotel in the city center (About 15-20 minutes walking or 10 minutes by tram from the train station). Get your first sense of Prague.
Day 3 - Prague
Day off in Prague, a historic city entre with many famous cathedrals, squares, and bridges. Climb the hill to visit the Hradčany castle complex, and don't forget to enjoy a glass of classic Czech beer. Other highlights are the Jewish quarter, with one of Europe's oldest existing synagogues, and many interesting museums like the Czech national gallery or Museum of communism.
Day 4 - to Budapest
Board the direct express train right across the continent to Budapest. Enjoy lunch in the dining car. Arrival in Budapest in the late afternoon, accommodation is in a modern hotel close to Nyugati main train station.
Day 5 - Budapest
Day off in Budapest. This city was formerly one of two capitals of the Austrian-Hungarian empire, and is still one of the continent’s cultural and historical centers. On the one hand, the city is a historical and architectural delight, with many gothic and art-deco monuments like the Parliament building and Castle. On the other hand, it is a youthful, lively city with many bars and a vibrant cultural scene.
Day 6 - to Cracow
Board the next express train. There are direct second-class coaches to Cracow; when travelling in first class, there is one cross-platform transfer. There is a dining car available. Arrival in Cracow in the late afternoon, where you are staying in a traditional hotel close to the train station and city center.
Day 7 - Cracow
Day off in Cracow. This city is by far Poland’s prettiest and most historically fascinating. The city has many interesting neighborhoods worth visiting, like the historic Old Town, the former Jewish quarter, and the Wawl castle complex. Underneath the central square you can discover some preserved features of the now-buried old town.
Optional day trips: day trips to either the Wieliczka salt mines or Auschwitz concentration camp can be booked as an addition to the tour. Please see details under 'Extensions' and in the booking menu. To book both trips at least one additional night in Cracow is necessary.
Day 9 - to Berlin
In the late morning, board the direct express train to Berlin. Enjoy lunch in the dining car as you see the Polish countryside glide by, and arrive in Berlin in the late afternoon. Accommodation in a modern hotel close to Berlin’s Hauptbahnhof central main station, or Ostbahnhof east main station.
Day 10 - Berlin
Day off in Berlin. Soak up the history at the Brandenburger gate, checkpoint Charlie, and the old squares in both East and West. Visit one of the many impressive historical museums like the Pergamom, or see what it was like to live in East Berlin in the DDR-museum. Berlin has many different neighbourhoods with different atmospheres.
Day 11 - return trip
Your trip through Central Europe has come to an end. In the morning you board the high-speed train taking you back your destination.
