The Historic Cities of Eastern Germany Rail Tour takes you to Weimar, Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin. In 4 different cities you experience over 1000 years of history, from the middle ages to today. Comfortable German trains take you from the station/airport of your choice in Europe to Weimar, where you set off, ending in Berlin. Day 1 - to Weimar
Depart by high-speed train from the starting point of your choice to Weimar. Seats are reserved by us on all long-distance trains, and a dining car is often available. You stay at a traditional German hotel near the train station and city center.
Day 2 - Weimar
Explore the city of Weimar. Weimar is a historical city known for writers like Goethe and Schiller and the well-preserved city centre full of idyllic squares and alleys. Visit the Bauhaus and Goethe museums, the beautiful Belvedere and Tiefurt castles, or take a day trip to the historical city of Erfurt.
Day 3 - Leipzig
After breakfast, a direct local train takes you to Leipzig. Discover this historic city, shaped by the cold war and the classic period. Many famous composers like Bach, Wagner, Schumann and Mahler are from the city. Nowadays Leipzig is a dynamic city with many contemporary festivals and exhibitions.
Day 4 - Dresden
You board a direct regional train to Dresden at any point during the day, where you arrive after an hour and can begin to explore the city. You are free to decide when you head to Dresden, where you stay in a modern hotel close to the main train station.
Day 5 - Dresden
Take the time to discover Dresden. The city is historical and impressive, with many art museums or preserved churches, parks and palaces waiting to be discovered. Especially the Zwinger palace, which itself hosts many museums nowadays, is worth a visit.
Day 6 - Berlin
You take a comfortable express train with reserved seats to Germany's capital Berlin. There is nothing else quite like this city: historical neighbourhoods, with famous landmarks like the Brandenburger tower, intertwined with modern streets with a bustling cultural scene. Visit one of the many museums, ranging from the Pergamom with some of the oldest preserved artifacts in the world to the East-German DDR museum. You stay in a modern hotel close to the train station.
Day 7 - return trip
Back by high-speed train to the station of your choice.We recommend booking an extra night in both Leipzig and Berlin. You can do this by customizing the length of the tour in the booking menu to your wishes. Feel free to contact us for more information or advice.
