The cozy Düsseldorf is a beautiful destination for a city trip by train. The capital of North Rhine-Westphalia is a great city for shopping and strolling through. The old town, the Altstadt, is located near the Rhine and is characterized by numerous bars, restaurants and stores. Also the new center, located between the station and the Altstadt, is well worth a visit thanks to the numerous stores.

The Altstadt is easily accessible from the train station by trolley, but it takes almost half an hour. If you want to travel to the Altstadt quickly from the station it´s best to take the subway. This is in a few minutes from the station in the old city. Perhaps the best time to visit Düsseldorf is during the Christmas market in December. The city then has a huge Christmas market, with a cozy Christmas atmosphere.

Altstad

Old town center on the Rhine. In the Second World War it was almost completely destroyed, but in the years after the war completely rebuilt.

Rheinturm

This facing tower in Düsseldorf can be climbed and offers a beautiful view over the city. At the top of the tower there´s a restaurant.

Rheinuferpromenade

Public transport Düsseldorf

Public transport in Düsseldorf is excellent. All corners of the city, including the city center, are easily accessible by bus, streetcar or metro. From Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof the subway is within a few minutes in the Altstadt, about 2 kilometers away.
