The medieval Ghent is dotted with historic buildings that rise far above the city. St Bavo's Cathedral has the leading tower. This cathedral is home to famous paintings by Rubens, among others, and the world-famous triptych "Presentation of the Mystic Lamb", painted by brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyk. Another landmark is the Belfry, an almost one hundred meter high tower that dates from the beginning of the 14th century. From the tower there´s a magnificent view over Ghent.

Other buildings in Ghent have also been around for centuries and have a special character. Think for example of Gravensteen, an eight centuries old fortress in the middle of the city. In addition, Ghent is a lively student city with numerous bars, restaurants and cafes. If you want to do some shopping, Ghent is also the place to be.
