Every year, millions of people make a city break to London. And with good reason. The extensive metropolis has numerous attractions such as Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and The Tower Bridge. In addition, the lively character of the mega-city with its surprisingly small-scale pubs is infectious. If you want to escape the hectic city life, you can go to one of the city parks, of which Hyde Park is the most famous and largest. Here you will share the greenery with numerous, not very shy squirrels. The British capital has a history that goes back to around the beginning of the era when the Romans built a settlement on the edge of the Thames. This settlement has now grown into a metropolis of 7.5 million inhabitants. Besides all historical and modern sights, the numerous small pubs are also worth a visit. In such a pub, the feeling of the giga-city quickly disappears and you could just as well be in a small town in Wales in the local pub. For those who like to shop, London is a small paradise. With famous shops like Harrods, London is a shopping destination par excellence.
Sights - London City Break By Train
Westminster Abbey
Gothic church on the UNESCO World Heritage List, traditionally the place where coronations and funerals of the British royal family take place.
Tower of London
Legendary building that houses, among others, the British crown jewels, guarded by guards who love to tell about London's long history.
Hyde Park
Owned by the British Royal Family and one of the most famous and largest parks in London. On the east side of the park is Speakers' Corner where public speeches are held every Sunday.
Buckingham Palace
Royal Palace. Every day, the Changing of the Guard is well worth seeing.
Houses of Parliament
This palace is the seat of Parliament and houses the House of Commons and House of Lords. It is also known for Big Ben. Just like Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
London Eye
135-metre-high Ferris wheel, built on the Thames, opposite Big Ben. Magnificent view over the city.
Piccadilly Circus
One of the most famous squares in London, but do not expect terraces and (relative) peace and quiet here like in a Belgian town square. The opposite is the case: the square is a major traffic artery.
St Paul's Cathedral
The largest Cathedral in London, where both William and Kate and Charles and Diana were married. From the dome there is a beautiful view over the city.
Tower Bridge
The most famous bridge of London, right next to the London Tower.
Public transport - City trip London
Public transport in London is excellent. All corners of the city, including the centre, can be reached easily by bus or underground. Keep in mind that it is very busy during rush hour and that metro and bus fares are very high. A public transport pass, such as the London Pass, for several days is easily cheaper than individual tickets. The London Pass also offers discounts at many attractions.
