ÖBB Car Sleeping Train
The Austrian railways, ÖBB, have been building up an extensive, renewed night train network in Europe for some years now. After the demise of DB Autozug and CityNightLine, both run by Deutsche Bahn and with a very extensive network and mostly daily trains, there was a very limited supply of good quality night trains for a number of years. The ÖBB has jumped into the breach. There are night trains again from, for instance, Hamburg to Innsbuck, Vienna to Livorno and Split and Amsterdam to Vienna. The trains of the ÖBB are of high quality and meet the requirements of modern times. Most of the ÖBB night trains have the possibility to take a car or a motorbike.
Location of Stations
The ÖBB runs stations for the car train in, among others, Vienna, Feldkirch, Villach, Innsbruck, Hamburg, Livorno, Split and Graz. These stations have a natural attraction for the inhabitants of the respective city, but the departure station can also be attractive for surrounding regions and countries.
Vienna, for example, is conveniently located for travellers to/from Hungary. Villach is well situated on the Austrian-Slovenian border for travel to the Adriatic coast. Feldkirch is ideally situated on the border between Austria and Switzerland for travel from / to all destinations in Switzerland. Hamburg is conveniently located for travellers from Scandinavian countries travelling to southern Europe in the summer.
ÖBB motorail stations
The stations where the ÖBB car trains depart and arrive are also managed by the national railways of the respective country. The way to these stations is always well signposted. If you need help getting your car on the DB Autozug, you can get help.
