The 5 most beautiful railway stations in the world
10/7/2019

The 5 most beautiful railway stations in the world. Among others: Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur and London.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai

No matter how busy it can be in this city: the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus will not be overlooked. The building was designed years ago by a British architect so both the Indian and Victorian architecture could be incorporated in this building. The Victorian can be seen in the architectural style and the Indian culture can be seen in all the decorations in the building. The building is so special, that it is now on the UNSECO World Heritage List.

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, Kuala Lumpur

This building is the perfect combination between Eastern and Western architecture. In 1910 this bright white building came into operation. Since 2001 this station is the central hub only in use for commuter trains, but you definitely can't miss out on a visit to this station in Kuala Lumpur.

St. Pancras International, London

This station is probably best known as the station of the Harry Potter movies. In addition, this station is now becoming almost as well-known by the international train that stops here several times a day directly from Amsterdam: the Eurostar. The roof on the platform is 210 meters long and 74 meters wide. From the outside you can admire the beautiful Victorian style of the building and on the inside you can enjoy the nice shops and lovely restaurants.

Estação de São Bento, Porto

Both on the inside and outside this station is very impressive. On the inside you can find a large work by Jorge Colaço. It took him 11 years to complete the artwork of the 20,000 ceramic tiles, but that still pays off today, because even today the artwork is still in excellent condition and well worth to pay a visit.

Haydarpaşa Station, Istanbul

Besides the fact that this station is a very functional building, it is also one of the most important historical buildings in the city. In a few years it has become one of the most important nodes of Eastern Europe. The station is half surrounded by water, so there are ferries sailing to the stationdaily. For the best view of the station you definitely have to get on such a ferry!
