Day 1

Travel from Great Britain by Eurostar and onward by ICE via Ulm to Lindau on Lake Constance, or continue directly to Bregenz. From April to October, there is also the option to travel by boat across Lake Constance to Bregenz. Stay, for example, at Hotel Messmer**** in Bregenz Hafen. 

Day 2

In the morning, travel on the EuroCity “Transalpin” along the beautiful Arlberg route to Innsbruck (First Class in a panoramic coach, except between 14 June and 14 October; Second Class in a standard coach). The climb to the Arlberg is one of the steepest railway routes in the Alps without rack assistance. Stay in a centrally located hotel*** within walking distance of the railway station.

Day 3

In the morning, there is time to explore Innsbruck. In the afternoon, continue on the “Transalpin” to Graz (First Class in a panoramic coach, Second Class in a standard coach). Travel along the Giselabahn and through the Enns Valley, crossing the Alps and passing many well-known winter sports resorts. Stay, for example, at Hotel Daniel***.

Day 4

In the morning, there is time to visit Graz. In the afternoon, travel across the Semmering Pass to Vienna. The Semmering Railway is one of Austria’s most spectacular railway routes, with beautiful views from its high viaducts. Stay, for example, at Hotel Daniel***, close to the main railway station.

Day 5

Free day in Vienna. Visit, for example, Schönbrunn Palace, the Hofburg and St Stephen’s Cathedral. The splendour created by Vienna’s imperial history is particularly impressive. Enjoy a meal in one of the city’s coffee houses or try the famous Sachertorte.

Day 6

Travel by train through the Wachau via St Pölten, where you can leave your luggage until you return in the afternoon, to Melk. Continue by DDSG Blue Danube boat through the most beautiful section of the Danube Valley, passing Dürnstein Abbey on the way to Krems. Here, the Danube flows swiftly through a narrow river valley. Return by train to St Pölten and continue to Salzburg. Stay overnight in a hotel*** near the railway station or the Old Town. The boat operates from April until mid-October 2026. Outside this period, travel by direct train from Vienna to Salzburg.

Day 7

Free day in Salzburg. Visit, for example, Mozart’s Birthplace, Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Mirabell Gardens or Hellbrunn Palace. Stroll through the attractive Old Town with its cafés and outdoor terraces.

Day 8

Return via Munich and continue by ICE and Eurostar to Great Britain.
