Karlovy Vary: historic spa resort for European nobility


Karlovy Vary was once the spa resort of the European nobility. Stay in a hotel between the railway station and the famous hot springs. Travel on both modern high-speed trains and classic rail services, and discover the charm and culture of this beautiful country.
Day 1
Travel by Eurostar, ICE and EC to Prague, the Golden City and one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. Stay in a ***(*) hotel in the city centre.
Day 2
Explore Prague's historic centre, with its squares, churches, museums, fortresses and castles. The city still bears reminders of both the Habsburg and Soviet eras.
Day 3
Enjoy some more time in Prague in the morning. In the afternoon, travel by direct Railjet train to Brno. Stay at, for example, Hotel Grandezza**** overlooking Brno's most beautiful square, with elegant rooms, an atmospheric restaurant and a stylish breakfast room.
Day 4
Free day in Brno. Discover its beautiful hillside setting, two castles, cathedral and atmospheric squares. You can also visit the fascinating underground city beneath the churches and squares.
Day 5
Take a train excursion to Mikulov, one of the pearls of the Moravian wine region. An optional wine tasting, including transfers and lunch, is available. Return to Brno before or after dinner.
Day 6
Travel by classic express train through the rolling South Bohemian hills to Český Krumlov. This fairy-tale town is nestled within the meanders of the Vltava River. Overnight stay in a *** hotel in the centre.
Day 7
In the morning, travel along idyllic railway lines through beautiful countryside to Karlovy Vary, the Czech Republic's famous spa town, once favoured by the European nobility. Stay in a ***(*) hotel between the railway station and the thermal springs.
Day 8
Discover Karlovy Vary. Ride one of the funiculars into the hills, visit the famous hot springs or explore the surrounding countryside. You can also visit Loket, a picturesque town enclosed by castle walls on a hilltop.
Day 9
Travel by regional train through the Ore Mountains and via Johanngeorgenstadt to Leipzig. In the late afternoon, there is time to explore the city of Bach, the Peaceful Revolution and Napoleon. Stay in a 3-star hotel near the central railway station.
Day 10
Return journey to London by ICE via Frankfurt and onward by Eurostar.
