Cologne is an ideal destination for a city break by train. Cologne's landmark building is the Cathedral, whose two characteristic towers can be seen from miles away. The cathedral is right next to Cologne's main train station and can be climbed. After a brisk ascent, there´s a magnificent view over the historic city center and the Rhine. The Cathedral is the heart of the city and is a good base to stroll through the historic center.

While strolling through the city, you´ll notice the historical richness of this city. Cologne has a long history dating back to Roman times. In the Germanic-Roman museum you can get a good impression of the long history of Cologne. Cologne is also an excellent destination for shopaholics.

A special time to visit the German city is during the Christmas markets when the city exudes a special Christmas atmosphere and there are Christmas cribs everywhere. If you want to take a break, you can take a seat at one of the many outdoor cafes along the Rhine, for example.

Dom

The Dom started building in Gothic style over 600 years ago and this has still not been finished. The Cathedral is almost 160 meters high and offers a beautiful view over the city as well as a special treasure trove.

Colonius

The highest tower in Cologne was once open to the public but is unfortunately closed nowadays. This however doesn´t make the tower less worthy of a visit.

A very popular museum with about 3000 years of chocolate history.

Roman-Germanic museum

Museum in honor of Cologne's long history dating back to the Romans. Special archaeological finds, e.g. remains of a Roman villa.

Public transport in Cologne is excellent. All corners of the city, including the city center, are easily accessible by bus, metro or S-Bahn. From Cologne's main train station the center is within walking distance. In Cologne, cheap day passes for public transport are available.
