Hanseatic city Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany with the busiest railway station in the country. Despite its size, the city has a quiet character due to the low buildings, the many greenery and water. In the middle of the city lie the Alstermeren, which were laid out in the 13th for drinking water supply, but are nowadays a pleasant recreational area where picnics and sailing can be done.
