About & Itinerary
Our own twist on Switzerland's scenic railways, and our best-selling Rail Tour more than 10 years in a row. Discover the most authentic Swiss villages and magnificent views from luxurious panoramic trains. We've included all trains we think are worth travelling to Switzerland for, plus hand-picked authentic hotels that we know rail travellers like to stay at during their trip. Enjoy the best that Switzerland has to offer with our tailormade itineraries, daily guides and live support during this once in a lifetime experience by rail!
Day off in the Jungfrau region with two possible day trips: the Schilthorn observatory by cable car via the car-free village of Mürren, or to the Jungfraujoch by Europe’s highest railroad. Read all about the Jungfraujoch railroad and activities at the Top of Europe.
The Luzern-Interlaken Express travels through the forest-covered Brünig Pass to Luzern where you board the paddle steamer boat across Lake Lucerne. The spectacular Gotthard Panorama Express takes you over the famous Gotthard Pass to Lugano. Stay in an Italian-style hotel in Lugano between the train station and the lake.
By Bernina Express Bus and Bernina Express train through the Italian lake district and high-altitude Bernina Pass to Bergün. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery through full-length panoramic windows. Accommodation in Bergün is in the beautifully restored Kurhaus Spa Hotel (when available).
Optional break in Bergün
For a more relaxed itinerary we reccommend booking an extra night in Bergün. Enjoy the classic hotel's spa facilities, enjoy a walk to the famous Landwasser viaduct or take a historic train with 1930’s coaches to Davos.
The Glacier Express, the world’s slowest Express train, takes you through the Rhine Gorge and over the Oberalp Pass to Zermatt. A three-course lunch (included) and drinks are served at your seat. Accommodations in Zermatt in a traditional Swiss family-owned hotel.
Enjoy a day off in Zermatt, with plenty of time to explore this beautiful car-free city that tourists have been visiting for over a century. Book the optional day trip by Gornergrat railway to see the world-famous Matterhorn mountains.
Enjoy one last scenic train ride from Zermatt over the Lotschberg Pass to Basel or Zurich. From there, high-speed trains take you to the station or airport of your choice. A post-trip night in Basel or Zurich can be booked if necessary; please contact our travel agents.
The Panorama rail tour is our custom-made selection of Switzerland's most scenic railways.
