Beautiful city split in half by the winding Donau. On one side of the river lies Buda and on the other side Pest. Both parts are connected by many bridges of which the Chain Bridge is perhaps the most beautiful one. Along the Donau lies the stately parliament building.
The hills along the Donau can be climbed and offer a beautiful view over the city. The Castle in Buda should certainly not be missed, but luckily this is almost impossible due to its size anyway. Around the Castle are numerous streets where time seems to have been standing still.
Chain bridge
A bridge from the 19th century built over the Donau, connecting Buda and Pest. The bridge is richly decorated.
Parliament building
Giant parliament building on the banks of the Danube. The stately building has more than 700 rooms. The building can be visited during a guided tour.
Elisabeth Bridge
Another one of the many bridges over the Donau. At the opening at the beginning of the 20th century the longest suspension bridge in the world.
Andrassy Utca
The longest promenade through the city.
St. Stephen's Basilica
This Basilica can be climbed. From the top you´re rewarded with a beautiful view over Budapest.
Public transportation
Public transport in Budapest is excellent. All corners of the city, including the city center, are easily accessible by bus, streetcar or metro. Keep in mind that some buses and streetcars may be obsolete.
