CrossCountry - Info

General

CrossCountry runs trains from Penzance to Bristol to Birmingham to Manchester/York and further up north to Newcastle, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. The trains of CrossCountry are comfortable; in 1st class free drinks and a small meal are included.  

CrossCountry is a daughter company of Arriva which is a daughter company of the Deutsche Bahn, the German railways.

Children

  • Children up to 4 years travel for free when they don't need an own seat.
  • Children from 5 untill 15 years get a 50% discount on most tickets
  • Seat reservations are possible for kids between 5 and 15, but not for children below 5 years. 

Animals
Small dogs, cats and other small are allowed, max. 2 per person. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times unless contained in a basket. 
Dogs without leads, cats, birds and small animals must be carried in an enclosed basket, cage or pet carrier. Animals and containers must not occupy seats, otherwise a charge will be made. 

Animals are not allowed in restaurant cars. Caledonian Sleeper allows dogs to accompany able-bodied passengers subject to a charge for a heavy duty clean. Booking for all dogs travelling in Sleepers should be made at least 48 hours in advance.

Luggage
Officially there is a luggage limit of two large suitcases per passengers with the height+width+length not larger than 158 cm and not heavier then 32 kg each, but in practice this isn't enforced.  There are luggage racks for big suitcases and backpacks near the entrance doors, for smaller bags there is space in the overhead luggage racks and under your seat.

You can use all national Railcards on all trains of CrossCountry. 

Interrail / Eurail / BritRail 
Passengers with a valid BritRailInterrail or Eurail-pass can use all trains. Seat reservations are optional and can be made up to one day in advance.

Business
The first class offers all the amenities needed for the business traveller to work and relax on board including special departure lounges, flexible fares and meals and wifi on board. See also Business travel by train.

At the station
Most stations served by CrossCountry are not very big and it's easy to find the right platform. On the major stations Manchester Piccadily, Edinburgh Waverley and Birmingham New Street, it can be busy and chaotic.
