The Eurail Select Pass covers two, three or four neighbouring countries which are connected by rail or ferry. This is the ideal choice if you're planning to visit a certain part of Europe. Some small countries are combined into larger areas (Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg=Benelux, Slovenia+Croatia and Serbia+Montenegro).

Passes are available for a number of flexible days within a longer period. Two-country passes are available in first and second class for both juniors (12 to 25 years) and persons over 25 years old, three and four-country passes are available in first class for persons over 25 years old and first and second class for juniors (12 to 25 years). Chlidren up to 11 years travel together when travelling with an adult holding a 26+ Pass, otherwise the junior-price applies.

Eurail Pass

The Eurail Pass is the way to discover the whole of Europe, a part of Europe or one specific European country. The Eurail Global Pass gives a number of days to explore the whole of Europe, the Eurail select Pass enables you to discover 2, 3 of 4 countries and the Eurail One Country Pass is valid for a number of days of travel in one specific country. Please note, the Eurail Pass is only valid for residents from overseas (outside Europe*), if are you are living in Europe you can buy the Interrail-pass for unlimited train travel in Europe.

How to book the Eurail Pass

The Eurail Global Pass, Eurail Select Pass and Eurail One Country Pass are bookable trough Happyrail. Also reservations can be made trough Happyrail, switch the booking form above to "Passes" and you are able to make reservations for almost every European train. 

The passes are always paper tickets and will be send by ordinary mail to your home adress everywhere in world. Please keep your full name, postal adress, date of birth and document number of your passport ready when booking an Eurail Pass. Please ensure that there's enough time to send the Eurail Pass to you. 

Reservations are mostly available as e-ticket which you can print out yourself after booking. If reservations are not available as e-ticket, we will send them with your Pass.

Eurail Global Pass

The Eurail Global Pass is valid for a number of days of unlimited train travel in the following European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Brittain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, FYROM Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway,  Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain,Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland

The Eurail Global Pass is available for a number of consecutive days or a number of flexible days within a longer period. The Pass for people of 26 years and older are available in first class only, the Pass for juniors (12 to 25 years) is available in second and first class. Eurail One Country Pass

The Eurail One Country Pass enables you to discover one specific European country. The passes are available for 3, 4, 5 or 8 days within 1 month. Passes are available in first and second class for both juniors (12 to 25 yaers) and persons of 26 years and older. Children up to 11 years travel for free when travelling together with an adult holding a 26+ Pass, otherwise the Junior-price applies. Passes for the Benelux are valid in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. There is also a Scandinavia-Pass which is valid in Denmark, Norway Finland and Sweden.

Tips for using your Eurail Pass

  • Each travel day is valid from 0.00 until 24.00 the next day.

  •  When travelling on a flexible day you have to fill in the date on your pass, your pass is valid from 0.00 until 24.00 on that day.

  • When you're travelling with a direct night train which leaves after 19.00 and arrives next morning you are allowed to fill in the day of arrival on your flexible Pass. The whole journey has to be within the vadility of your Pass. (example: your Pass is valid from the 1st until the 15th of May for 5 flexible days. You're leaving on the 1st of May with a night train at 20.00 arriving next morning, you can fill in the 2nd of May on your Pass.

  • The Eurail cover contains a travel report in which you have to fill in all your train journeys. This is required and you Pass isn't valid when you leave this blank.

  • The Eurail Pass is an unique document. When your pass gets stolen or lost, you've to buy a new Pass or tickets.

  • The Pass might not be valid on private railways, please consult the information per country below.

  • Many high speed trains or night trains require a compulsory reservation with a supplement payable, please consult the information per country below.

  • Your Eurail Pass has to be activated before use. This is possible at most large train stations in Europe.

Your Eurail Pass is valid for almost every train in the participating countries, but some restictions apply especially for private railways and high speed and night trains. For most high speed trains and night trains reservation is compulsory and a supplement payable (mostly included in the reservation). In France, Spain, Italy and Sweden all long-distance trains have a compulsory reservation, its recommended for these countries to book trains early. For all other countries reservation might be handy for long distances or busy travel dates around the weekends and (summer) holidays.

 

Validity, reservations and supplements per country

Austria

ValidityEurail is valid on all ÖBB-trains, Westbahn-trains between Salzburg and Vienna and Gysev-trains from Austria to Hungary. Eurail is not valid on narrow-gauge private railways like Zillertalbahn or Pinzgauer Lokalbahn.
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is optional for all RailJet, EC and IC-trains (€4,50 p.p.), but not compulsory. Supplement for Business-class seats on Railjet and IC-trains is €15 upon the first class fare. For EuroNight-trains reservation is compulsory for couchettes or sleeping carriages.

Belgium

Validity: Eurail is valid on all SNCB/NMBS-trains, Thalys (with compulsory reservation), Eurostar (with compulsory reservation) and ICE.
Supplements and reservations: For domestic Belgian trains reservation is not possible, you can just hop on with your Pass. Supplement/reservation is compulsory for Thalys-trains, €25 in second class and €35 in first class, both for Global, Select and One Country Passes (you only need an One Country or Select Pass covering Benelux OR France). The compulsory supplement/reservation for Eurostar for both Global, One Country or Select Pass (only one country needed) is €75 in second class and €115 in first class, it might be cheaper to buy a normal ticket which are cheaper when you book early. For ICE-trains reservation is not compulsory but possible for €4,50 p.p. 

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Bosnian Railways (ZFBH/ZRS)
Supplements and reservations: No reservations possible or required, you can take every train which suits you.

 

Bulgaria

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Bulgarian Railways (BDZ)
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory on Express-trains. Costs about €1,80, reservations can only be made locally at the train stations since Bulgaria isn't connected to the European reservation system. International (night) trains require a reservation which can be made from abroad, costs vary between €3 for a seat to about €15-€20 for a couchette or sleeper.

 

Czech Republic

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Czech Railways (CD). Eurail is not valid on private RegioJet and Leo Express-trains 
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory on SuperCity Pendolino-trains (about €7 p.p.), reservations are possible but not compulsory on EC/IC/Railjet/and fast (Rychlik)-trains. On night trains reservation is compulsory for couchettes and sleeping carriages (about €13 to €45).

 

Croatia

Validity: Eurail is valid on all train of the Croatian Railways (HZ). 
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory on ICN-tilting, night trains and Intercity/EuroCity-tains (about €3 per train). Couchettes and sleeping cars on night trains have a compulsory reservation (about €13 to €45)

 

Denmark

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Danish Railways (DSB) 
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are possible but not required on domestic Lyntog and IC-trains (about €4 p.p.). Swedish X2000-trains from Copenhagen to Stockholm require a compulsory reservation, €7 for 2nd class and €14 for 1st class. The Eurail One Country Pass Denmark is not valid on X2000-services, the One Country Pass for Sweden is valid. For ICE/EuroCity-trains Copenhagen-Hamburg there is a compulsory reservation during the summer months, €4,50 p.p.

Finland

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Finnish Railways (VR) 
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are possible but not required on domestic IC-trains, about €3 p.p.. Reservation is compulsory on tilting Pendolino-trains, about €12 p.p. Sleeping carriages on night trains to Lapland, about €35 p.p. For the high speed Allegro-services to St Petersburg special fares are available for Eurail Pass holders.

 

France

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the French Railways (SNCF) 
Supplements and reservations: 
TGV-trains (both domestic and international) reservation is compulsory for alle trains. Prices varies from €9 to €36 depending on the journey made and number of seats already sold. 
Intercité: Supplement/reservation is compulsory for most long distance-trains, about €4 to €8 p.p.
Intercité de Nuit: Compulsory reservation, €9 for seats, €17 for 6-bedded couchettes, €27 for 4-bedded-couchettes (1st class Pass required)
Thalys-trains, €25 in second class and €35 in first class, both for Global, Select and One Country Passes (you only need an Select or One Country Pass covering Benelux OR France). 
Eurostar: The compulsory supplement/reservation for Eurostar for both Global, Select or One Country Pass (only one country needed) is €75 in second class and €115 in first class, it might be cheaper to buy a normal ticket which are cheaper when you book early. For ICE-trains to Germany: reservation is compulsory with limited seats available, about €15 to €25.

 

Germany

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the German Railways (DB) and most private and regional railways (an overview of the excact validity).
Supplements and reservations: 
For all domestic ICE, EuroCity and Intercity-trains reservation is possible, but not required (reservation is recommended for long distances or busy travel days). For domestic and international CityNightLine/EuroNight-services reservation is required for the couchettes (€10-€20 p.p. or sleeping cars (€45-€105 p.p.).
Thalys-trains, €25 in second class and €35 in first class, both for Global and One Country Passes (you only need an One Country or Select Pass covering Germany, Benelux OR France). 
For ICE- and TGV-trains to France reservation is compulsory with limited seats available, about €15 to €25.
For ICE/EuroCity-trains Copenhagen-Hamburg there is a compulsory reservation during the summer months, €4,50 p.p.

Greece

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Greek Railways (TRAINOSE)
Supplements and reservations: Domestic Intercity-trains require a reservation and a supplement of €10 to €45 which only can be bought locally since TRAINOSE isn't connected with the European reservation system. For international trains from Serbia, Macedonia (FYROM) and Bulgaria reservations can be made from abroad, about €4 for a seat or €15 for a couchette.
Holders of an Eurail Global or Eurail Italy/Greece Select-pass get free transport on Superfast and Minoan Line ferries between Italy and Greece. Deck passage is included in 2nd class passes and Pullman seats in 1st class passes, supplements for fuel, high season dates and harbour fees have to be paid locally. Holders of an Italy or Greece One Country Pass get 30% of the crossings between Italy and Greece. All holders of an Eurail Pass get a 30% discount on domestic ferry fares of Superfast, Minoan Line and Blue Star to the Greek Islands, this applies when a crossing has been made across the Adriatic Sea from Italy to Greece.

 

Hungary

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Hungarian Railways (MAV Start) and the Gysev (trains in Western Hungary and to Austria)
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is compulsory on domestic IC-, Express and IP-trains or making a domestic journey with an international train, price about €3 p.p. Reservations are also compulsory for travelling with EuroNight-trains, prices vary from €3 for a seat, €13 for a couchette or €25-€50 for a sleeping carriage. Reservations for international EuroCity or RailJet-trains to Austria are possible but not compulsory, price about €4,50 p.p.

 

Ireland

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of Irish Rail and the Northern Irish Railways (Translink). 
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are possible but not required for both domestic Irish/Northern Irish trains or the Enterprise-service from Dublin to Belfast. Reservations can only be made locally since Ireland isn't connected to the European reservation system. 
Eurail gives a discount of 30% on prices for Irish Ferries (Holyhead-Dublin, Pembroke Rosslare) and Stena Line (Holyhead-Dublin and Fishguard-Rosslare).

 

Italy

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Italian Railways (Trenitalia). Eurail is not valid on private Italo-high-speed-services or regional private railways.
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory for all domestic Frecciarossa, Frecciaargento and Frecciabianca high speed services (€10 p.p.), Intercity services (€3 p.p.), IntercityNotte-services to Sicily (€3 for a seat, €25 for a 4-bedded couchette, €50-€75 for a beth in a sleeping car). International EuroCity-services to Switzerland and Austria have optional reservation for €4,50 p.p., CityNightLine to Germany and EuroNight have compulsory reservation in the couchettes or sleeping car (€10 to €105).

 

Luxembourg

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Railways of Luxembourg (CFL), including CFL-buses.
Supplements and reservations: For domestic journeys and trains to Belgium and Germany reservations are not possible or required, you can take every train which suits you. For TGV-trains from Luxembourg to France reservation is compulsory (€9 to €36, depending on the numer of seats sold).

 

FYROM Macedonia

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Macedonian Railways (MZ)
Supplements and reservations: For domestic journeys reservations are not possible or required, you can take every train which suits you. For international (night) trains reservations are compolsory, prices vary from €3 for a seat to €13 for a couchette.

 

Montenegro

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Railways of Montenegro (ZCG)
Supplements and reservations: For domestic trains reservation is not possible, you can take every train which suits you. For international trains to Belgrade reservation is reccommend, these can only be made locally.

 

Netherlands

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Dutch Railways (NS) and all private regional railways (Arriva, Breng, Syntus and Veolia)
Supplements and reservations: For domestic journeys reservations are not possible or required, you can take every train which suits you. For international ICE and InterCity trains to Germany reservation is possible but not compulsory.For CityNightLine-trains to Germany reservations are compulsory for couchettes (€10 p.p.) or sleeping carriages (€45-€105). 
Supplement/reservation is compulsory for Thalys-trains, €25 in second class and €35 in first class, both for Global and One Country Passes (you only need an One Country or Select Pass covering Benelux OR France). 
About 80 stations in The Netherlands are gated with automated gates for the nationwide chip card for public transport, the cover of every Eurail-Pass has a barcode which enables you to open the special "barcode"-gate and pass these gates. 

 

Norway

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Norwegian Railways (NSB), the Interrail One Country Pass Norway is also valid on trains Oslo-Göteborg and Oslo-Stockholm. Interrail gives a discount of 30% on the Flamsbanen Myrdal-Flam.
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is reccomended for all long-distance trains, second class is about €4 p.p. Trains in Norway don't offer first class, but NSB Comfort Class is an upgraded second class with free coffee/tea and less crowded, the supplement is about €13 upon the second class price. Domestic night trains have a compulsory reservation (about €4 for a seat and €50-€100 for a private sleeper cabin). The Eurail Pass gives a discount of 20% (10% in the summer months) on ferry crossings with Fjord Line including Hirthals-Kristiansand/Stavanger-Bergen.

 

Poland

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Polish State Railways (PKP), both on the Intercity (PKP-IC) as the regional lines (PKP-PR). Interrail is also valid on the trains around Warsaw of Koleje Mazowieckie (KM). Interrail is not valid on other regional railways like Arriva, KD, WKD and SKM.
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is compulsory in Express, Express, ExpressICPremium-trains, domestic EuroCity-journeys and first class TLK-journeys. A supplement of €10 is payable on board for ExpressICPremium-trains when the reservation has been made abroad. For Intercity, TLK (2nd class) and Express-IC-trains reservation is optional for €4,50 p.p. For domestic and international night trains reservation is compulsory, about €15 p.p. for a couchette and €25-€75 for a sleeping car.

 

Portugal

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Portuguese Railways (CP).
Supplements and reservations: For high-speed Alfa Pendular (AP) and Intercity (IC)-trains reservation is compulsory. Since Portugal isn't connected to the European reservation system these reservations can only be made at the train station in Portugal, the price is about €3 p.p. For the daily Celta-trains Porto-Vigo and international night trains to France and Madrid reservation is compulsory and these can be made online. Seats about €7, a beth in a sleeping car is about €25-€75.

 

Romania

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Romanian Railways (CFR). Interrail is not valid on private railways like Regiotrans or Softrans.
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is compulsory on international trains and domestic Intercity-trains, about €4,50 p.p.. Reservation is optional for IR-trains. Reservation is compulsory on night trains (about €15 for a couchette, €25-€75 for a sleeping car).

 

Serbia

ValidityEurail is valid on all trains of the Serbian Railways (ZS)
Supplements and reservations: No compulsory reservation for domestic trains. For international trains treservation is recommended (€4,50 for a seat, about €15 for a couchette).

 

Slovenia

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Slovenian Railways (SZ)
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is compulsory on tilting InterCitySlovenija (ICS)-trains, about €7 p.p. On EuroCity and InterCity-trains reservation is recommended (€4,50 p.p.). 

 

Slovakia

ValidityEurail is valid on all trains of the Slovakian Railways (ZSSK), Interrail is not valid on private RegioJet and Leo-Express-trains.
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory on InterCity, EuroCity SuperCity and EuroNight-services (about €4,50 p.p. for a seat, €15-€45 for night services). Reservations are optional on fast services (Rychlik and Express), €4,50 p.p.

 

Spain

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Spanish Railways (RENFE). Eurail is also valid on narrow gauge services in Galicia (RENFE-FEVE) and suburban services around the big cities (Cercanias and Rodalies). Eurail is not valid on Euskotren-services and other narrow-gauge private railways.
Supplements and reservations: All long distance trains have a compulsory reservation, it's recommended to book early. Supplements vary from €10-€35 for high speed AVE and Euromed-services, to €6,50-€15 for Alvia, Altaria and Arco-trains. Reservation is also required for international TGV/AVE-services to France, the supplement varies from €25 to €55 but the Eurail One Country or Select Pass Spain is valid for trips up to Paris by direct services. For international night trains to Portugal reservation is compulsory (€7 for a seat to €25-€75 for a beth in the sleeping car).
Many stations in Spain are gated with a check-in and luggage scan. Suburban Cercanias-stations in big cities are fenced with automatic ticket barriers. Upon presentation of you Eurailpass at the ticket window you receive a keycard to open these barriers.

 

Sweden

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Swedish State Railways (X2000). Eurail is also valid on all other private regional railways like Arriva, Öresundtag (trains between Denmark and Sweden) and Norrtag. Eurail is also valid on Snälltåget-services between Malmö and Stockholm/Berlin and the scenic Inlandsbanan-Railway from Mora via Östersund to Gällivare . The Eurail One Country Pass Sweden covers also Intercity-services to Oslo from Stockholm and Göteborg and X2000-services to Copenhagen.
Supplements and reservations: Reservations are compulsory for all long distance trains. The supplement varies from €7 p.p. for high speed X2000-services to €3 p.p. for Intercity-services. Reservations are compulsory on night trains to Lapland and on the Malmö-Stockholm-route, supplements vary from €3 for a seat, €20 for a couchette to €50 for a beth in a sleeping carriage. Reservation is also compulsory on Snälltåget-services Malmö-Stockholm (about €3) and the summer night train to Berlin (about €29 for a couchette). Reservation is compulsory on Inlandsbanan-trains (about €5 p.p.).

 

Switzerland

ValiditySwitzerland has about 30 different railway companies. Eurail is only valid on the federal railways (SBB/CFF/FFS) and a few private railways. 

Eurail is valid on the following railways:

  • SBB/CFF/FFS Federel Railways, most main routes
  • BLS AG, regional routes around Bern, GoldenPass route Zweisimmen-Interlaken and from Bern to Brig and Interlaken
  • FART/SSIF Regional lines Ticino including the Centovalli-route from Locarno to Domodossola (Interrail is also valid on the Italian part of the line)

  • RhB Rhätische Bahn, narrow gauge services in Grisons including the famous Albula and Bernina route.

  • THURBO AG, regional services in the north-eastern part of Switzerland
  • ZB Zentralbahn AG, Goldenpass-route from Lucerne to Interlaken and trains from Lucerne to Engelberg.

Eurail is also valid on boat services on Lake Brienz, Lake Thun, Lake Lucerne and Lake Geneva.
Supplements and reservations: Reservation is not required for any domestic journeys, you can take any train which suits you (including domestic EuroCity, Railjet and TGV-services). Reservation is optional for domestic long-distance services, EuroCity/ICE-services to Germany, EuroCity-services to Italy and Railjet-services for €4,50 p.p. Reservation is compulsory on international TGV-services (€9 to €36 depending on the number of seats sold). Reservation is also compulsory on CityNightLine/EuroNight services to Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Hungary. Supplements vary from €10 for a couchette to €45-€105 for a beth in a sleeping car.
For special panoramic trains like GoldenPass, Luzern-Interlaken Express and Wilhelm Tell Express reservation is optional for about €5 to €10 p.p. For the famous scenic Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano reservation is compulsory and costs about €10 tp €15 p.p., the entire route is covered by the Eurail Pass. For the Glacier Express the route is only covered from St Moritz to Disentis/Mustair, you need an additional ticket from Disentis to Zermatt. Also you need a compulsory reservation for the Glacier Express which costs about €15 in winter months and €35 in summer months.

 

Turkey

Validity: Eurail is valid on all trains of the Turkish Railways (TCDD). Interrail is valid on both sides of the Bosporus, on the European as well as the Asian part of the country.
Supplements and reservationsReservations are recommended on Intercity and high-speed services, these can be made for free at any Turkish train station.
Please note: Due to the construction of the high speed line and the tunnel under the Bosporus in Istanbul all international services from Bulgary and Romania terminate at the border town of Kapikule or Cerkezköy. A supplement bus service runs to Istanbul. Also services from Istanbul to Ankara and other Asian parts of Turkey start in Eskisehir. Regular bus services run from Istanbul to Eskisehir, but Eurail is not valid on these services.

Brennerbahn Innsbruck-Bolzano: Main route from Munich into Italy, runs via the scenic Brenner pass
Marseille-Nice-Ventigmiglia: Route along the Côte d'Azur to Nice and Italy via Toulon, Cannes, Antibes and Monaco.
Perpignan-Latour de Carol: The famous "Train Jaune" (Yellow Train) trough the Pyrenees to the Spanish border station of Latour de Carol. Connecting service to Barcelona available.
Bernina Railway Chur-Tirano: Famous route over the Albula and Bernina route (UNESCO World Heritage). From Chur the train winds his way up along the Rhine and Albula river. You pass the famous Landwasser-viaduct and several spirals until you arrive in the beatiful Engadin-valley. Continue over the more than 2200 meter high Bernina route into Tirano in Italy. Eurail is valid for the total route. The panoramic Bernina Express requires a compulsory reservation which costs about €15.

Insider tip: travel the Bernina Railway by ordinary train: The panoramic Bernina Express connects Chur and Tiano without any changes and offers wonderful views from the special panoramic windows. If you want to save the supplement for this train or shoot pictures from the open window the regional trains which operate routes this route might be a better option. Regional trains run from Chur to Samedan, change here for Pontresina and continue by regional train to Tirano. In the summer season some regional trains even convey open carriages without roof. Step off in Ospizio Bernina and walk to the Alp Grüm station along the Lago Bianco.

 


GoldenPass Railway Lucerne-Interlaken-Montreux
Travel from Lucerne along the Lake Lucerne and Lake Brienz and over the Brünigpass to Interlaken, continue along the Lake Thun to Zweisimmen and trough the Alps to Montreux on Lake Geneva. Eurail is valid on the entire route. Reservation is optional and costs about €15 per stretch (3 trains).
