Invasion beaches, Mont Saint-Michel and Ushant Island
History, dramatic coastlines and rugged nature

Travel by comfortable train through Normandy and Brittany, regions renowned for their dramatic coastline, rich history and varied landscapes. Visit the D-Day beaches, Mont Saint-Michel and the island of Ushant, while staying in charming, centrally located hotels. Your rail tour begins and ends in Paris.
Day 1
Travel by Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord. Transfer to Paris Saint-Lazare and continue by TER Nomad train to Bayeux in Normandy. Overnight stay in a three-star hotel near the station, for example Hotel Le Bayeux.
Day 2
Free day in Bayeux, famous for its medieval tapestry and impressive cathedral.
You may wish to take a local bus (journey time approximately 30 minutes) to Arromanches, at the heart of the D-Day landing beaches. Visit the Landing Museum and see the remains of the Mulberry Harbour built during the Allied invasion. Alternatively, join a guided minibus tour (approximately €95 per person) departing at 13:15, including Omaha Beach and Arromanches.
Day 3
Travel by train to Saint-Malo, the impressive walled port city with beautiful beaches and a historic old town. Overnight stay in a three-star hotel within the old town, for example Hotel Balmoral.
Day 4
Optional day excursion by bus to Mont Saint-Michel, France's second most-visited attraction. This spectacular abbey rises from a rocky tidal island, which becomes surrounded by water at high tide. In the late afternoon, continue by train via Rennes and by TGV to Brest. Overnight stay in a three-star hotel near the station, for example Mercure Hotel Les Voyageurs.
Day 5
Free day in Brest.
You may wish to take a day trip to Île d'Ouessant (Ushant), a rugged island off the Breton coast and the westernmost point of mainland France. Its famous lighthouses have guided ships safely through these waters for centuries. Ferries depart from Brest, close to both the hotel and the railway station. Timetables vary, but sailings are typically around 08:20 with a return at approximately 19:30. Bicycle hire is also available on the island. Overnight stay in Brest.
