Day 1

Travel by Eurostar and ICE to Hamburg. Overnight stay in a hotel close to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, for example the IntercityHotel.

Day 2

Continue by train to Kiel. Board the ferry to Gothenburg, departing at 5.45 pm or 6.45 pm. Enjoy a scenic cruise past the Danish islands. Overnight stay on board in a comfortable private cabin.

Day 3

Enjoy breakfast on board while sailing along the beautiful skerry coast with its countless islands. Arrival in Gothenburg at 9.15 am, followed by a tram ride to the railway station. Continue through the forests of Sweden, past beautiful lakes and across the Norwegian border to Oslo, arriving at 1.45 pm. Overnight stay in a hotel*** near the central station, for example Thon Hotel Terminus.

Day 4

In the afternoon, travel on the first section of the Bergensbanen via Myrdal to Vatnahalsen, at an altitude of 800 metres. Enjoy spectacular mountain scenery throughout the journey. Overnight stay at the Høyfjellshotell***. This characterful mountain hotel is located beside the Flåmsbana, surrounded by the Norwegian wilderness.

Day 5

Today's route is also known as Norway in a Nutshell. First, travel on the famous Flåmsbana, one of Europe's steepest railway lines, to Flåm. Continue by electric ferry through the narrow Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen, passing dramatic mountain cliffs. Enjoy magnificent views from the spacious outdoor deck or through the large panoramic windows. From Gudvangen, continue by coach to Voss and then by train on the final section of the Bergensbanen to Bergen. Overnight stay at Hotel Grand Terminus*** or Zander K***, close to the railway station.

Day 6

Free time in Bergen. Stroll along the lively harbour and the historic Bryggen district, take the Fløibanen funicular to Mount Fløyen or the cable car to Mount Ulriken. In the evening, board your Hurtigruten or Havila ship for a two-night voyage along Norway's spectacular fjord coast. These comfortable, small-scale ships offer several restaurants, panoramic lounges and spacious outdoor decks. Havila's modern vessels can sail for up to four hours on battery power with zero emissions. Overnight stay on board.

Day 7

Spend the entire day on board. In addition to several short calls, the ship spends longer in Ålesund, giving you time to explore the town if you wish. Depending on the season and the shipping company, the voyage continues through either the spectacular Geirangerfjord, with its towering cliffs and waterfalls, or the equally beautiful and lesser-known Hjørundfjord. Overnight stay on board.

Day 8

Arrival in Trondheim in the late morning. You will have time to explore this charming city before continuing in the afternoon on the Dovrebanen to Oslo. This scenic railway crosses the Dovrefjell mountain plateau and the Gudbrandsdal valley. Overnight stay in a hotel*** near Oslo Central Station, for example Thon Hotel Terminus.

Day 9

Travel by train to Gothenburg in the morning and board the Stena Scandinavica in the late afternoon. The ferry departs at 5.45 pm or 6.45 pm. Enjoy the departure along the Göta River towards the Kattegat from the open deck. Overnight stay on board in a private cabin.

Day 10

Arrival in Kiel at approximately 9.15 am. Return to London or your preferred railway station in Great Britain by ICE and Eurostar.

From April, May, September and October, Hurtigruten sails through the Hjørundfjord; from June to August through the Geirangerfjord. Havila's modern ships sail through the Geirangerfjord from April to August and through the Hjørundfjord in September and October.
