In een woord geweldig! Goed in balans, alles goed geregeld, mooi landschap. Op bijna iedere locatie hadden we een nacht extra, daar waren we heel blij mee. Abisko hadden we nog wel een nacht extra gewild ivm wandelen en de natuur!

The most beautiful rail tour of Scandinavia, including the most spectacular section of the Hurtigruten coastal voyage through the Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands. Experience the Midnight Sun in early summer and the magical Northern Lights in autumn and winter.

Day by day

Day 1

Travel by Eurostar and connecting trains to Hamburg. Overnight stay in a hotel close to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, for example the Reichshof Hotel.

Day 2

Travel by daytime train via the island of Funen and across the Great Belt Bridge to Copenhagen. Overnight stay in a hotel*** close to the railway station, for example Hotel Mayfair.

Day 3

Travel across the Øresund Bridge to Malmö. Continue in the morning by fast X2000 train to Stockholm. Stay aboard the MS Mälardrottningen, a three-star hotel ship on Lake Mälaren close to the railway station, quietly located in the city centre (cabin with bunk beds). Gamla Stan and Stockholm Central Station are within walking distance. Accommodation in another hotel without bunk beds is also available (see Supplements & Discounts).

Day 4

Free day in Stockholm. Late in the afternoon or early in the evening, depart on the comfortable overnight train towards Lapland.

Day 5

Early in the morning, the overnight train arrives in Boden. Change to a daytime train. You pass the Arctic Circle and Kiruna before arriving in Abisko. Stay at Abisko Turiststation***, in the wilderness of Lapland on the shores of Lake Torneträsk, overlooking Lapporten.

Day 6

From Sweden's driest place, Abisko, travel 30 kilometres via Sweden's wettest place, Riksgränsen, through the high mountains and descend above the Ofotfjord to Narvik in Norway. Continue by bus to Harstad. Stay in a centrally located Thon or Scandic Hotel***.

Day 7

Enjoy a particularly beautiful daytime voyage on a Hurtigruten or Havila ship to the Lofoten Islands, passing countless islands and the cliffs of Risøyhamn. Stops are made at Sortland and Stokmarknes. The highlight of the day is sailing through the Trollfjord. Stay in a hotel*** in the centre of Svolvær, for example Hotel Vestfjord.

Day 8

Late in the morning or early in the afternoon, depart by scheduled bus for a beautiful journey through the Lofoten Islands, heading south to Moskenes. In the evening, take the ferry to Bodø (please note: on Fridays and Saturdays this sailing is not available until the end of May or from 31 August onwards). Overnight stay in a Thon Hotel or Scandic Hotel*** in the centre of Bodø.

Day 9

Travel on the beautiful Nordlandsbanen, one of Norway's most scenic railway routes, from Bodø to Trondheim. Overnight stay in a centrally located hotel, for example Thon Hotel Nidaros.

Day 10

In the afternoon and evening, travel by train across the Dovrefjell mountain plateau to Oslo. Stay in a hotel***/**** near Oslo Central Station, for example Thon Hotel Terminus.

Day 11

Travel by train to Gothenburg. In the afternoon, board the ferry to Kiel. Enjoy the scenic voyage through the Gothenburg archipelago and across the Kattegat. Overnight stay on board in a comfortable private cabin.

Day 12

Arrival in Kiel in the morning. Continue by train via Hamburg and Brussels, then by Eurostar to London. Arrival in the evening.
