Sweden's most beautiful railways, the Midnight Sun & the cosy atmosphere along the Inlandsbanan.

Day by day

Day 1

Travel by Eurostar and connecting trains to Hamburg. Overnight stay in a hotel near Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, for example the IntercityHotel.

Day 2

Continue by daytime train via the island of Funen and across the Great Belt Bridge to Copenhagen. Overnight stay in a hotel*** close to the railway station, for example Hotel Mayfair.

Day 3

Cross the Øresund Bridge to Malmö. Continue in the morning by fast X2000 train to Stockholm. Stay aboard the MS Mälardrottningen, a three-star hotel ship on Lake Mälaren close to the railway station, quietly located in the city centre (cabin with bunk beds). Gamla Stan and Stockholm Central Station are within walking distance. An alternative stay in a regular hotel is also available.

Day 4

Travel by InterCity train from Stockholm via (Gävle and) Borlänge to Mora, in the beautiful province of Dalarna. Here you change for the first section of the Inlandsbanan (operating from 15 June to 12 August), continuing to Östersund. Stay for two nights, for example at Hotel Älgen.

Day 5

Free day in Östersund. Visit the Moose Garden or enjoy a walk along the shores of Lake Storsjön, Sweden's fifth-largest lake.

Day 6

Travel on the Inlandsbanan (operating from 15 June to 12 August) to Gällivare, passing endless forests, bridges, countless rivers, old wooden stations, and the habitats of moose and beavers. During the journey, the train makes several extended meal stops where you can enjoy traditional Swedish dishes in unique locations. The conductor takes your meal order on board and phones it through to the restaurant, so your meal is ready on arrival (payment locally). The train waits long enough for a relaxed meal. Cross the Arctic Circle. Overnight stay at Grand Hotel Lapland*** in Gällivare.

Day 7

Travel by train from Gällivare to Abisko on the shores of Lake Torneträsk. Overnight stay at Abisko Turiststation*** in the wilderness of Swedish Lapland.

Day 8

Travel by train from Abisko to Narvik. From Sweden's driest place (Abisko), travel just 30 kilometres via Sweden's wettest place (Riksgränsen), crossing the high mountains before descending alongside the Ofotfjord into Norway. Overnight stay in Narvik, for example at Breidablikk Guesthouse*** with panoramic views over the fjord.

Day 9

In the afternoon, depart Narvik by train for Boden. Here you board the comfortable overnight train to Stockholm. Overnight stay in a sleeping compartment with bunk beds and washbasin.

Day 10

Arrival in Stockholm during the morning. Continue by fast X2000 train to Malmö, then cross the Øresund Bridge to Copenhagen. Overnight stay in the city centre within walking distance of the railway station, for example Hotel*** Mayfair.

Day 11

Travel by train via Hamburg to Bremen. Overnight stay in a hotel near the railway station.

Day 12
