Day by day


Day 1

Travel by Eurostar and ICE to Hamburg. Overnight stay in a hotel close to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, for example the IntercityHotel.

Day 2

Continue by train to Kiel. Board the ferry to Gothenburg, departing at 5.45 pm or 6.45 pm. Enjoy a scenic cruise past the Danish islands. Overnight stay on board in a comfortable private cabin.

Day 3

During breakfast, sail along the beautiful skerry coast with its countless islands. Arrival in Gothenburg at 9.15 am, followed by a tram ride to the railway station. Continue through the forests of Sweden, past beautiful lakes, across the Norwegian border to Oslo, arriving at 1.45 pm. Overnight stay in a hotel*** near the central station, for example Thon Hotel Terminus.

Day 4

Travel on the Sørlandsbanen through the rugged south-west of Norway to Stavanger. Some sections of this scenic railway are accessible only by train. Overnight stay in a centrally located hotel***, for example Thon Hotel Maritim.

Day 5

In the morning, travel by comfortable Kystbussen coach to Bergen, passing through deep tunnels (up to 223 metres below sea level) and crossing two ferries. Overnight stay in a hotel*** close to the railway and coach stations, for example Hotel Grand Terminus or Zander K.

Day 6

Today's route is also known as Norway in a Nutshell. First, travel on the Bergensbanen to Voss, then continue by coach to Gudvangen at the head of the Nærøyfjord. Continue by electric ferry through the narrow Nærøyfjord to Flåm, gliding silently past steep mountain cliffs. Enjoy magnificent views from the spacious deck or through the large panoramic windows. In Flåm, change to the famous Flåmsbana, one of Europe's steepest railway lines, to Vatnahalsen. Overnight stay at the Høyfjellshotell***, a characterful mountain hotel beside the Flåmsbana and surrounded by spectacular Norwegian scenery.

Day 7

Travel across the most scenic section of the Bergensbanen to Oslo. Sit back and enjoy the magnificent mountain landscapes on both sides of the train. Overnight stay in a hotel*** near the central station, for example Thon Hotel Terminus.

Day 8

Travel by train to Gothenburg and board the Stena Scandinavica in the afternoon. The ferry departs at 5.45 pm or 6.45 pm. Overnight stay on board in a private cabin.

Day 9

Arrival in Kiel at approximately 9.15 am. Continue by ICE via Hamburg to London or your preferred railway station in Great Britain.
