Day 1: Calgary
Arrival Calgary and on your own to hotel.
Day 2: Calgary to Banff
Early departure from Calgary and a full day tour will let you enjoy the beautiful Canadian Rockies today. Via a beautiful route through the Canadian Rockies you drive to Banff. On the way you´ll stop for a ride on the Banff Gondola and a 12 minute helicopter ride. Overnight stay in Banff.
Day 3 and 4: Banff, Kamloops to Vancouver
In the morning, board the Rocky Mountaineer at Banff train station. During the train journey you will experience the drastic changes in the landscape. From the desert-like environment of the interior of British Columbia, the large rocks of the "Coast and Cascade" mountains, the wide rivers surrounded by forests to the green fields of the Fraser River valley. Today's highlights include the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels and of course the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Breakfast and lunch aboard the train. Your train journey ends in the evening in Kamloops, where you will spend the night. Early departure from Kamloops the next day. Today's highlights: the rivers of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep cliffs along the Thompson River. You arrive in Vancouver in the early evening. Here you´ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
Day 5: Vancouver
Today the North Shore excursion is on the program. Enjoy breathtaking views of the city, mountains and sea on this 6-hour excursion and get to know the spectacular North Shore. For example, visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. By gondola you will go to the Peak of Vancouver from where you´ll have a beautiful view over the city, the sea and the surrounding mountains. You´ll be picked up and brought back to your hotel.
Day 6, 7 and 8: Vancouver, Alaska Cruise and Cruise Inside Passage
The next morning there is still time to explore Vancouver further. In the afternoon you´ll go to the cruise terminal to board the ms Nieuw Amsterdam of the Holland America Line. Your 8-day cruise to Alaska begins. Overnight stay on board. On the third day you will sail through the beautiful Inside Passage. This elongated strait is flanked on both sides by impressive snowy peaks, pine forests and fjords. Perhaps you will see dolphins and whales from the deck of the ship. Overnight stay on board.
Day 9, 10 and 11: Juneau, Skagway and Glacier Bay Scenic Cruise.
At the beginning of the afternoon of the fourth day at sea you moor in Juneau. This is the capital of Alaska and was founded in 1880 by gold diggers. This afternoon you can explore this friendly place or you can choose to go kayaking, hiking, rafting or whale watching. The next day you arrive in Skagway. This is the northernmost place you´ll visit during this trip and is beautifully situated at the end of the longest and deepest glacial fjord of North America and is surrounded by mountains. Skagway is a small picturesque tourist resort and is one of the oldest places in Alaska. On the sixth day of this trip you´ll be introduced to the unique ecosystem of the Glacier Bay National Park. This national park, with its many glaciers, can only be reached by water or air. Keep your camera at hand and listen to the impressive abrasive sound of the ice masses.
Day 12, 13 and 14: Ketchikan and Cruise Inside Passage
On day 12 you´ll visit Ketchikan, located on the elongated island of Revillagigedo on the banks of the Tongass Narrows. The next day you sail back to Vancouver via the Inside Passage. Last night aboard the ms Nieuw Amsterdam.
Day 15: Vancouver
After breakfast you leave the MS Koningsdam in Vancouver. Transfer on your own to the airport and then fly home.
