Day 1
Travel by Eurostar and TGV Lyria to Basel. Continue by train to Lucerne. Overnight stay in Lucerne.
Day 2
Today you travel on the scenic Gotthard route to Lugano. From Lucerne, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise across Lake Lucerne to Flüelen before continuing by train through the Gotthard region to the Mediterranean canton of Ticino. During the operating season, this journey is made on the Gotthard Panorama Express; outside this period, you travel on the Treno Gottardo. Overnight stay in Lugano.
Day 3
Free day in Lugano. Stroll along the lakeside promenade, explore the historic centre, or take an excursion to Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Overnight stay in Lugano.
Day 4
Travel on the Bernina Express. First, take the Bernina Express Bus from Lugano to Tirano, following a beautiful route along Lake Lugano, Lake Como and through the Valtellina Valley. In Tirano, board the panoramic train for one of Switzerland's most spectacular rail journeys to St. Moritz. When the Bernina Express Bus is not operating or fully booked, the journey between Lugano and Tirano is by train.
Day 5
Free day in St. Moritz, with plenty of opportunities for walks and excursions. Overnight stay in St. Moritz.
Day 6
Travel on the legendary Glacier Express, crossing 291 bridges, passing through 91 tunnels and climbing over the 2,033-metre Oberalp Pass to Zermatt.
The Glacier Express Excellence Class includes:
- Luxury seating with a guaranteed window seat
- Exclusive access to the Glacier Bar
- Aperitif and amuse-bouche
- Five-course lunch with accompanying wines
- Snacks, soft drinks, fruit juices, coffee and tea served throughout the journey
Overnight stay in Zermatt.
Day 7
Free day in Zermatt. For example, take the cogwheel railway to the Gornergrat for spectacular views of the Matterhorn and surrounding Alpine peaks. Overnight stay in Zermatt.
Day 8
Travel via Brig and the scenic Lötschberg route to Basel. Continue by TGV Lyria and Eurostar back to London, or your preferred railway station elsewhere in Great Britain.
9-day Rail Tour (outward or return stopover)
