Summer rail tour through Switzerland along some of the country's most scenic railway routes. Travel through alpine landscapes with mountain meadows, deep valleys and snow-capped peaks. In Bergün, follow the Heidi and Peter Trail, where scenes from the Heidi films were filmed.
Along the way, you can get off at the Oberalp Pass to visit the source of the Rhine and its famous lighthouse, a replica of the lighthouse at Hoek van Holland. In Kandersteg, you can also walk the spectacular Gemmi Pass to Leukerbad, one of Switzerland's classic mountain hikes. This rail tour is also an excellent choice for families with children.

Day by day

Would you like to travel on the official Glacier Express and Bernina Express? Then take a look at the Swiss Panoramas rail tour.

Day 1

Travel by Eurostar to Paris, continue by TGV Lyria to Switzerland and on via Chur to Bergün in the canton of Graubünden. Stay, for example, at Hotel Weisses Kreuz***, located in the heart of this authentic mountain village, around 400 metres from the station. Enjoy the sunny terrace and the many walking and excursion opportunities. You will stay here for three nights.

Recommended excursions include the Heidi and Peter Trail in Latsch, the Preda–Bergün Railway Trail and, during summer, the historic open-coach train between Filisur and Davos.

Day 2

Free day in Bergün. Take the train to Preda and walk back to Bergün along the Railway Trail, visit the Railway Museum, or travel by train to St. Moritz or Davos.

Day 3

Travel along the Bernina Express route using regional trains, allowing you to enjoy the scenery through opening windows. The route climbs over the UNESCO-listed Albula Line, through spiral tunnels and across impressive viaducts to the Engadin, before continuing via Pontresina and the 2,328-metre Bernina Pass to Tirano in Italy.
A stop at Alp Grüm for coffee or lunch is highly recommended. Keen walkers may wish to hike from Ospizio Bernina to Alp Grüm, above the tree line with magnificent glacier views.

Day 4

Travel along the Glacier Express route using regional trains through the Rhine Gorge to Disentis and over the 2,044-metre Oberalp Pass. We recommend stopping at the pass to visit the source of the Rhine before continuing to Andermatt. From there, travel through the Furka Base Tunnel to Brig and continue on the scenic Lötschberg route to Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland.
Stay for two nights in Kandersteg, for example at Hotel des Alpes.

Day 5

Day trip by train to Zermatt, at the foot of the Matterhorn. You may wish to take the cog railway to the Gornergrat for one of Switzerland's finest mountain panoramas (excursion not included).

Day 6

Travel via the Lötschberg route to Basel, continue by TGV Lyria to Paris and by Eurostar to London or your preferred railway station in Great Britain.
